“Every year, we look forward to presenting this time-honored event and deeply appreciate the participation of and contributions from our city and community. This year it’ll look a little different, but the spirit is still the same.” -- Randal Thomas, Pet Parade chair
“In this time of social distancing, being able to connect with others online can help us maintain our sense of community and feel a little normal. Plus, who doesn’t want to see photos of cute animals?! We could all use something to make us smile these days, and I think the virtual Pet Parade is just the ticket.” -- Sarah Walling, Board of Directors |

Grand Marshal: Silverton High School Boys Basketball State Champions
“The Foxes Boys Basketball Grand Marshal offers an inspiring opportunity to honor the students, faculty, and administration of Silverton High School for their commitment to emphasize academics in the classroom, and skill and respect for their opponents on the court or in the field,” Kiwanis Pet Parade Chairman Randal Thomas said.
The Silverton team won its first State Championship in 105 years on March 13, at Gill Coliseum.
Coach Steve Roth said the team is excited to be named Grand Marshal.
“The boys will be bringing their pets and dressing them up in uniforms,” Roth said.
The team will be escorted along the parade route by the SHS Fox mascot and the marching band.

Grand Marshals: In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Silverton Kiwanis Club honored its two living charter members by making them grand marshals of the Pet Parade. Orville Roth brought “TLC,” his “favorite bear who likes to throw candy to kids.” Beside him, Warren Levecke carried a photo of “Peaches” in his pocket. His loving lapdog had died the year before.
Special Grand Marshal: Boomba the Dog
Thanks to his recent act of heroism, Boomba the Dog joins Bobbie the Dog in Silverton’s (quirky but necessary) unofficial Canine Hall of Fame. When fire broke out at the Silverton Palace Theatre the morning of April 11, Boomba was walking his owner, downtown resident Carla Mahler. The Chinese Crested Dog “that looks like it has a Mohawk” noticed the fire and Mahler immediately called 911, said Palace Theatre owner Stu Rasmussen, adding that were it not for the quick action, the theater would have been a total loss. Further credit, he said, goes to the Silverton Fire District for the circumspect way in which they handled the blaze. Therefore, it is only fitting that Boomba don the garb of a firefighter and head the well-attended parade.
